“BRIGHT IDEAS”
This major remodel of a mid-century home was started as a discussion about getting new appliances and cabinets. However, after creating a master plan for the interior of the house and outlining the design opportunities, the scope of the project expanded.
The compact outdated kitchen was expanded into the backyard to achieve a true “chef’s” kitchen with high end appliances including: Miele cooktop and double ovens, Sub Zero refrigerator and refrigerated drawers, Dornbracht faucets, Franke stainless steel sinks, Ceasarstone quartz countertops and custom Italian cabinetry from Varenna.
With gray Seattle winters, it was important to bring in as much natural light as possible. To “bring the outside in”, a wall of glass was proposed using a Kawneer commercial storefront system. In addition to bringing tremendous natural light, it also opened access to a new patio and garden views.
The masterplan for the house allowed for the project to be broken into phases. The rest of the house was remodeled in stages.. A new gas fireplace and surround as well as new windows, exterior rainscreen siding, and new green fiber insulation in all exterior walls. The Master Bathroom featured a new vanity and Wetstyle sink as well as new fixtures and a custom mirror. The basement was turned into a home theatre.
